If no buildsheet, how can be sure of model and original color car?
« on: February 14, 2009 - 06:40:27 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm looking at this car http://www.cudaworld.com/adDetail.php?cat_id=9&sub_id=0&ad_id=2119 and seller has no buildsheet.
Is there a way to know if this is a real AAR cuda just with the VIN.
I already kno that BS = cuda ,BH = barracuda, and BP= gran coupe.
What about AAR?
Also, what about original color.
I think color is indicated on fender tag but you can order those from specialty stores and they look exactely like the original, so you can have any color you want put on there. Doesn't mean it's the original color.
Thing is, I know value is better retained when color is original as well as other things of course.
Also, anyone knows this cuda? Does it sound like a good buy to you?

The VIN and fender tag should give you all the info you need, but I would be darn sure of verifying the information.  Make sure all VIN stampings match the dash VIN, and ask for documentation that it is an AAR.  It should have a good paper trail if it is.  Also, DO NOT BUY IT before having it professionally inspected.  These cars were selling for $90K plus a couple years ago, so this seems like a pretty good deal if it is an AAR.  Have you asked for the VIN, yet?

VIN will tell you if it's real, 5th digit calls out engine, it should be 340-6.

I'm not sure, only remember the following:
g-318
h-340
U-440
v-440-6

Someone will chime in.

351C4v71,

I recommend that you look at this and then look at the VIN tag under the windshield.  The last six number of the VIN need to match this and the Raditor Support and under the Cowling.

This tag says that it has a lot of options and I looked at all the and it does have these option.

IMO, this is a real AAR and is at a great price.  I also love the color since my 71 Superbee is the same color.

An AAR had a "J" for it's engine code.  That's why the JOB in the VIN is extremely important!

Good Luck,

Your looking for BS23J0B which is on the tag.
Make sure the remaining sequence number after that matches the cowl, and the radiator support.
I tried to clean up the pic of the fender tag but it still sucks.
You can also make out the paint code, FJ6 (sassy grass green).
Not a good enough pic for me to tell whether it is a real tag or not.
Some here have better eyes for that

Like I said, they make reproduction tags like that with watever you tell them to put on it.So I don't trust these at all.
So you guys are saying that I need to see a J in the VIN for engine code.
I'll ask the seller and get back to you.

Yes, there has to be a "J" in the VIN for the engine code.  I can understand where you are coming from.  I too would not want to buy a fake AAR.  You really need to know what to look for or hire a professional.

There are fake broadcast sheets out there too now.  :walkaway:

So if you are not sure about one, check with someone that is very familiar with them BEFORE you buy.

It would take an incredible resto paint job to hide all traces of the original color, especially if it's somebody trying to pass off a fake. If it was some other color originally you'll find it somewhere under the carpet or in the trunk or behind a door panel. :grinyes:

Just got news from the seller.
VIN is BS23JOB292457.
So it has to be an original AAR right???? :clueless: I mean, you can't fake the vin, it's on the registration right???
Lately I've seen AAR going for less $ then BS cudas, any reasons for that?

Man, this car is tempting.
Anyone knows a professional I could hire in southport Florida to take a look at it.
Or how I can find one in that area??. I am from Montreal Canada so....
This could be my first cuda.

Wrong, it could have been re-bodied years ago.
You've had a lot of your questions answered here, and you still seem a bit confused, or not too sure of yourself.
Bring someone with ya who really knows Mopars....simple as that.  :2cents:
