New CID
«
on:

Just pulled the heads off my 440 U and discovered that it is bored .30 over. I'm just curious, does anybody know what the new CID is with the .30 over so I don't have to dig out the formulas and calculate.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle. FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Thanks. I'm a little surprised. I thought you'd pick up more the 6 CID from a .30 overbore, but I'm just a novice at this engine stuff.

Nope. Boring is not a performance deal. It's a simple fact that you need to freshen the surface for the rings, so you will need a bigger piston. No speed secret.

When you do the math, the increase in bore isn't the big contributor to increased volume, it's the increase in stroke. That's why you always hear of big engines referred to as "strokers."
