Fuel pump recomendations?
« on: February 22, 2009 - 07:56:22 PM »
I need a new pump for my 440. Which brands do you recommend? Any to stay away from? This is a street car.

No matter which way you go, I would recommend a fuel pressure regulator. My Carter HV is rated at 6 PSI, but was putting out close to 9 PSI.

Thanks guy! Love this site!! The engine runs but it won't fill the fuel filter. It's one of those cheap see though filters. I have a mallory comp 140 new in a box but it's for my Buick with the noisy holley electric pump. It's way to noisy it's gotta go! I think I'll go for the Carter pump you all recomend! Thanks!

If the filter is lying on its side or an angle it won't fill completely, pump may be OK..   :burnout:   :2thumbs:

I got factory lines on my 440 and the filter is straight up and down.  It takes a special line at the pump with a curve and then the filter, then the line up to the carbs.

On a side note, that glass filter is not safe. The rubber o rings deteriate then start leaking gas.  I can find a spare line I might have if you are TRYING to go original. If not original, I'd like to keep it for any other member that may need it

Thanks Moparal!! Your a great guy! You keep it though as I don't need a stock one. I know what you mean about those filters (glass) they are total junk! This one is a plastic see though type, not much better still a fire hazard in my opinion, I will be changing it for sure! I have just never seen one with just a dribble of fuel in it? They always are full? Yes it's on it's side. So I assume the pump is not up to snuff? It runs but I haven't got it on the road yet. Just tinkering for now! LOL i have lots to do before I look at changing the pump. This being a 6 cyl car now with a 440 I'm assuming I'll have to change the fuel pick up at the tank to a bigger one.

the fuel filters often retain air in them , generally no issue
