My newest toy
« on: March 06, 2009 - 12:11:38 AM »
Man this thing is fun. Takes some time to get used to the controls tho. I busted up a complete set of blades a bit ago by turning the controler off first. The copter goes wide open when you shut it off wrong. Took me an hour to change out 4 blades with a 1/16 allen head.  It was to windy out today to learn outside.

Caution--- beware of ceiling fans and flying cockateil birds :smilielol:

150 bucks for this one and extra battery pack.  It was the beginers model and came with a flight simulator. My next step up is the 500 buck gas copter, then the 1500 buck nitro.  Things are fun

Al, you da man! I've been trying to learn helos for a week now and can't even hover yet. Good thing I'm just using a computer sim or I'd have spent some serious coin by now  :22yikes:

Let me know what the trick is when you get it mastered. I'll stick with fixed wing for now.

The simulator was slowing me down. It isn't the same as hands on learning. With this heli, I was trying to idle up slow on the rpms to huvver. It was like driving a car on the road. It just went along the floor on the carpet in the house was all making it difficult. I learned to throttle up about 50% and it lifts up straight and around 2 ft off the floor, then I leave the throttle alone to some degree and practice left and right forward and backwards making very small moves. I am hoping I can manuver it all around the house in each room after today, just walking behind it.

These things are a blast to play with.

Maybe that it is my mistake. I am trying to hover just off the ground. Maybe I'm getting some kind of ground effect. I'll try hovering at about three feet and see if I can get it.
Thanks Al.

Very cool, Alan!   I thought I was going to see a Hemi Super Bee or something.  :smilielol:

I got a little kiddie one for my kids, I had to test it out for them first for them, right?   :roflsmiley:

The RC helicopters once learned how to fly can a be a lot of fun!  Just watch out with the nitro ones.  I here they can be tricky to land and a small breeze will give you a challenge to fly it.  :grinyes:

Have fun!

I have a 3d Heli gave up trying to fly it two years ago when I was just getting the hang of hovering and the tail rotor came a little loose so I gave it more throttle, or so I thought, but actually gave it less. I fixed it and now the gyro is broken.

Years ago my father in law had one of those gas ones and he was flying it all over in the back yard next thing the things up there tree top high and he lost control or something broke and it tokk off for foar as the eye could see than went dowm way across the rod down some pine trees any some very tall grass.i looked for hours for that thing and never did find it.the next day the city had one of those tractors with the big grass blades cutting in the area so if it was around there i think it was pretty much history  :pullinghair:
