mount on tranny

There is a "block" mounted on the end of the tailshaft on a 727 I have. What's that mount for ???  Looks like it just hangs there doing nothing.

They still use those, my wifes Liberty has one on the front of it rear axle.

  I have been able to get by (like most) taking it off.  I did have one car that forced me to put it back on.  :2cents:
