Reuse my LY rods?
« on: August 24, 2009 - 10:56:46 PM »
I'm gathering the parts to rebuild the 440 for my latest project, is there any good reason not to have my LY rods reconditioned  and use them? I keep being told to toss them and buy new but for a  street motor is that worth it?

stock rods are usualy fine when resized with new arp rod bolts if ur staying below 6k rpms and 500hp.
u could go buy new rods but you may have to resize them also or at least make sure they are checked.
new rods is not a garanty that they are perfect, far from it sometimes, but at least they are new and not stressed in there earlyr life, something you might not no about the stock rods ?

I can get them done for about $130 cheaper than the entry level performance rods. If you run a lighter piston and everything is abalnced, they will spin much higher than 6K reliably and I've made more than  600 on them with NOS. They are not really light, but they are strong.
