Steering box problem
« on: May 11, 2009 - 10:02:16 PM »
I just replaced a seal in the power steering box in my Cuda. Now, when I start it up, the wheels turn all the way to one side by itself. I saw a couple of posts from people having the same problem, but the pic.s showing how to adjust it are gone. Can somebody help me out with this?
Dave

there are 2 1/2 bolts that hold the housing to the top of the steering box , loosen the bolts & tap the housing uo ro down on the steering box until the wheels stay centered

Are you talking about the 2 bolts where the return line goes in or the two bolts where the supply line goes in? One opens a horizontal hole, and the other opens a vertical hole with a spring loaded valve behind it.

Ok, I think I've got it worked out now. It's amazing how sensitive of an adjustment that is. Thanks for the input guys.

Got mine adjusted too.  Here is a scan of the page out of the service manual for this adjustment.  Hope it helps anyone else that has this problem.  Start at step 15.  If anyone needs a clearer version let me know and I can email it to you.

From 1969, but the data is the same for this adjustment. Watching the video will help anyone understand how the whole PS system works as well. Chapter 2 at this link;
