Ring & Pinion part number I.D.
« on: March 23, 2009 - 07:52:36 PM »
I have a couple of ring & pinion gear sets that I am trying to identify in which carriers they can be used.

1. 3.91 ratio gear set:  ring gear 3432215 and pinion gear 3507398

2. 3.55 ratio gear set:  ring gear 2070898 and pinion gear 3507319

These gears are also stamped with 1971 date codes.  Would anyone out there know which carrier(s) these can be used in??  7-1/4??  8-3/4??  741 case?  742 case?  489 case??  Any help greatly appreciated!!    :dunno:

Thanks for the reply; that is great info.  Here is what the pinions look like, and both of them have a stem diameter of 1-3/8" and 29-splines.

Where do you measure the ring gear to get 7-1/4", or 8-1/4", or 8-3/4"?  Or are these sizes measured on some other component?
