Did Mr Dodd vote yes for the bill????

Yes,he caved to pressure and voted yes(along with many repubs) and is now the scapegoat for those who really wanted no cap on compensation. All I`m saying is there is penty of blame to go around, don`t just balme Dodd and Obama for everything.

I also dont think the AIG people deserved a bonus but what the government did was unconstitutional. They all at once wrote a law and passed it through congress and it was signed into law to tax a certain group of people at 90%. Now think of that and your own personal income tax. What if they decide to "roll up their sleeves" and tax us all at a higher level? Unlikely but a dangerous precedent has been set with what they did.

They GAVE the company that money  for a specific reason-to keep the m afloat and when they saw they were using it for bonuses they corrected thier mistake-I don`t see any the problem?

The politicians are screwed no matter what they do in this situation. On one hand you have a company that gave bonuses to people that, IMO did not deserve them. Well, that's ok it's their money, or our money. So if you oppose the bonuses, you are a bad guy for trying to control AIG's decisions. If you don't oppose it, then you are the bad guy also, either way you lose votes.
You knew this was going to happen, the govt. gives all these big companies billions, then they OWN you. So what's their solution to the gigantic mess that they have created? Well the answer is easy of course, tax the bonuses at 90%!! These guys are just F'n brilliant!! What a bunch of incompetent, overpaid, yellow-bellied, jerk-offs!! The whole bunch of them, Rep's, Dems, House, Senate. They should ALL Lose their jobs, next time around. This is just getting too stupid. :banghead:

Why must you guys argue over the two parties who are holding this country hostage? It is appearant that the people with thier pants aroud thier ankles are Democrats but I do blame the Repubs that voted for the bailout. Both sides wer telling us that these bills HAD to get passed or ELSE!

While both perties pretty much make me sick, IT IS the Dems. this time who have the bigger a$$hats. Dodd, goes without saying. Geithner, goes without saying. The entire Administration should have pressed for more cautioun on spending OUR $1,000,000,000,000.00 +.

Thye also, allowed Treasury to print how much more money? Don't be fooled, printing money is just another way to tax your azz. Obama, ran on this platform that he was te only one to save our economy and look, he's spent more in his first two months than Bush did in 8 years (with two global scale wars!).

You can't sit there and say, " Well he has to spend the money to fix what George Bust screwed up." There is a saying, " You can't have your cake and eat it too." I'll explain, remember how the "Saviour" blasted McCain for saying the fundamentals of our economy were strong back in October. Remember, our economy is fuct and he was going to fix it. Now that it is on Obama's shoulders and it is he that is in the pressure cooker, he said almost the EXACT same thing the other day, our economy at it's core is strong. Really? How does it go from being in the dumps when he was campaigning (which it seems that he still is) to being strong? Oh yeah, I guess blowing though a TRILLION dollars in two months made it strong. I guess the stock markets should reflect that.
Either the administration is filled with Idiots or Liars. Obama has already proven he is a pretty smart guy in the terms of Academia. I guess he is just a LIAR.

Don't confuse my blasting of the Democrats here for being Republican. Trully, I don't thing tru conservatism is nearly as damaging to America and Far Left Liberalism. But where are the Conservative's? It is the Republicans and the sheisters who call themselves Conservative I blame just as much as the Dems because they told you that we HAD to get this Bailout passed. Really? Without READING IT?!?!?!?!? They are just two wings of the same shi+bird.

Why do we only have two political parties? Truth is , we don't. The Dem. and Rep.s would love to keep all of you one way or the other. They trully think you are idiots. They are playing the American people for all they're worth and then some. They tell you that third parties never succeed, if you vote for them that it is a wasted vote. They way I see it, if you vote for a Dem. or Repu. it IS a wasted vote. They have sold America on the notion that the only way to fix our problems are with them. At this point you just have to lower your head and shake it.

All the while, they are the ones who have forgotten all about how the framers of the Constitution and our Forefathers wanted the direction of this country to go. You know all the cool little quotes of Thomas Jefferson that people like to post when they are mad at thier government? THAT IS the voice of the Libertarian Party. We need to get back to our Principles and get rid of our Principals. We need accountability, patriotism, term limits, and our Rights back. States need the ability to govern thier citizens how they see it and the Federal government needs to QUIT TRYING TO HELP.

Recently, I heard that Dept of Homeland Security put out a report saying that militia people and radicals most often associated themselves with third parties. It said that people who have a Don't Tread on Me flag or Give me Liberty or Give Me Death bumper stickers might be Domestice Terrorists. They might own firearms, they may quote Jefferson..... All this was very funny to me because that is exactly who I am. That IS a description of me. I am being labeled a terrorist by the DHS/FEMA. I joine the military to fight terrorism. I want America to prosper and it apparently aint workin' with what we got right now folks. We need Free States. Vote Libertarian www.lp.org

Breaking news.

They just announced that the Administration is going ahead with buying up a Trillion dollars worth of bad assets from banks, the ones they bailed out and the others. Also the plan to tax the AIG bonus recipients 90% is unconstitutional. A contract is a contract folks. They are just trying to reverse the screw up that the writers of the bailout created.
There is also plans in the works to regulate the salaries and bonus' of the entire banking system. The government is regulating how much a person can have as income. Didn't Communist Russia and China do something like income control? This is pushing to have a Nationalized Banking System.

Sounding like Socialism yet?

Why would you want Government to try regulate and fix things when they destroy EVERYTHING they touch?

The thing thats wrong is the precedent they are setting for doing whatever they decide is right. What if next time around they see you have a big refund coming and they want 90% of that? What if they pass a bill real fast into law that makes it legal to come and get your musclecar because it pollutes the air? See what I mean about the precedent that was set? I dont believe AIG earned the bonus either but the way the government got it back or most of it back was unconstitutional.

 :iagree:

A contract is a contract. Were they deserving of the bonuses? Of course not. Did they have a caontract that was initially OK'd by the administration? Yes.

It wasn't until the publics outrage that the politicians started having this phony outrage. Dodd said wen the bill left him to go to the administration the bonus language wasn't in it. Then the very next day he said that when it left him it wasn't in there but the Administration wanted it (Geithner) and then he did put it in there. All of a sudden people start noticing and they try to sweep the bad bill writing and haste in passing it under the rug with this un-Constitutional 90% tax on bonuses.

This nationalizing of Banking and Gov. restriction on wages and bonuses is appauling. If they do a bang up job and do something to save the bank loads of money or improves efficiancy, or gets his company more clients or customers he won't be able to recieve a bonus he deserves. Liken this to a waitress that is the best waitress you ever had. Your meal was $20.oo and you feel she is deserving of more than the standard 15%. You want to give her double that because after all, it was the best food service you ever recieved. But, you can't. Uncle Sam says you can't reward the waitress with what you feel she deserves.
