Need Advice on PPG Argent vs Other Choices
« on: March 14, 2009 - 10:37:42 AM »
My bodyshop is at the grille painting stage and they don't like the texture of the PPG Argent for my '70 Cuda. They contacted YearOne and they recommend the same paint. I've heard good things about TotallyAuto and Eastwood rattle cans but would like to find a quart. Any suggestions on who has the best paint for this application??

Check with Totally Auto they used to sell quarts and pints of most all the paint they sell.

I used the totally auto rattle cans on my 70 cuda grille and it came out perfect. If you want the correct finish contact them. If you body shop doesn't like it I would tell them tough as its your car and you want it right.

I just tried the TotallyAuto paint - about as close to original as I've ever seen.

That's what I experienced. I had a sample from an original grille that hadn't been messed with (hidden under the headlight bezel overlap) and the two compared very nicely. Glad it worked for you.

I put Totally Auto paint on my grille and was very pleased.  Looks great.  Has anyone seen the BE&A grilles?  The paint looks cool, but is it correct.  There is a tremendous amount of sparkle in the paint.  Does anyone know how to get that look? :clueless:

Is Totally Autos argent in a can the same textured argent used on 71 Challenger tailpanels and grilles? I need to do both but do not have a gun or air compressor yet. I was wanting to get 2 or 3 cans of their textured argent but have not had any feedback on it.

The shade that is correct for the '70 grille is Dark Argent. I'm not sure that is the same as what you are looking for or not. They only have rattle cans but the paint applies really well even with the texture. The body shop is toying with the idea of spraying a dull clear over the paint to give me long term protection. I'll report back on what he used if that works out.
