SIDE TRIM QUESTION
« on: March 26, 2009 - 04:39:17 PM »
Hello,
I just found a wonderful set of original side trim for my challenger. Supplied by "HOUND DAWGER" I wanted to let everone know that he was a great seller to deal with.

BACK TO MY POINT FOR THIS POST: I was about to order part number #167 from R/T Spec. to attach this trim and I was wondering if anyone had used this kit and how hard it is to use. (SEE IMAGE BELOW)

Back story: Some years back the car was repainted. The people that did it stole or tossed the original trim and replaced it with a very close glue on style.  :screwy: They didn't fill the holes on the car just stuck this stuff over it. :eek7: My real question here is does this kit from R/T come with the fasteners that stick out of the holes on the car? Right now I only have holes where the old trim use to attach. There is nothing for the clips to clip into.  :clueless:

Looks like the kit only include the end bolts, not yhe studs. The studs are welded on. There is a rivet available from Auveco PN: 20987. I have no idea where to get them though.

I've seen some screw-in type studs that were apparently manufactured for dealer installs of side trim and vinyl top trim. The ones I saw were on fleebay years ago. Phillips head screws with a very small diameter and thin head would possibly work too. The ones that hold the side glass rubber (cat's whiskers) on the doors are a good example.

I purchased this kit from R/t and it includes small locking pins which you push thru the holes to expand and lock into place. No need for welded studs- after I went out & bought one. Works great!

Keep trying, R/T Specialties is pretty much a one man show from what I have seen but he will do right by you and his kits are impressive. Once you realize he does not have a support staff its easier to be patient with him. Leave a message and I bet he will return it or just keep trying to reach him.

You will have to call him at R/T. I'm still waiting for an e-mail reply from 3 years ago!  :scared:

I understand that. I run a little vintage decal business and it is just me, but people think I am some massive warehouse. With 25 on staff.  :screwy: Sorry bro, I am pushing out over 30 orders a week. Something I mess up and don't get back ASAP!!  :icon16:

But thanks for letting me know. I will keep that in mind when talking to him.  ;)
