Why is it?

I'm in the process of obtaining quotes for a paint job on my '73 Cuda. As soon as they see the Cuda the price goes up a grand or two. Now the Cuda needs little body work & nothing fancy as far as the paint goes (Cuda is street driven) so all I need is a nice paint job on a straight body. I've been told that this is considered a restoration. So why is it that if I needed a quote on my wife's Envoy it's just a paint job, but as soon as they see the Cuda now it's a restoration?

I remember the first time I put a torch to the side of a newer car, a '78 Fairmont that I was painting for a customer to try to get rid of a crease. It warped so bad so quickly that I thought I'd have to replace the quarter panel  I'd rather work on an old car with thick metal anyday. Tell that guy to take a hike.

Greed and envy...I had the same problem...what part of the country are you in.   I found a great shop...very reasonable that only works on cuda's and Challengers...If you're looking for a first class job...I may have a recommondation.

********& get EVERYTHING in writing.... Seems several of our members have had quotes that became unreasonably inflated after some work was done

Hey, although I'm not a lifelong gearhead...I did have a cuda as a kid, and I'm sure, like alot of us in the mid 2000's, felt rich due to the Real Estate markets and were trying to have the car we wanted in HS.   We may not have the experience, but have the passion.

Much like the R/E market and the home contractors who flourshed...the price of specialty work has come down quite bit in the past 2 years, and, I believe, so will the cost of the work we want done on our vehicles. 

Reality is setting in!  Good or bad??
