      Its a 340 with 727 torqueflite trans and non-locking rear end.  The motor has a holley 4160/4 barrel and edelbrock torker intake. The motor was rebuilt in 2006 with a mild cam and .030 oversize pistons. I also have a full FBO ignition kit with a standard mopar single pickup electronic distributor.  Timing is set at 10*BTDC. CHAMPION sparkers set at .040"  Factory cast
    exhaust manifolds. (a set of tubed headers is planned)
    Has it always bogged? Was the cam degreed in when installed?

                 No, it just started when i fitted the Holley that i bought off ebay (nearly new) so i think its only adjustment.

          I am fitting a high torque mini starter motor at the moment to allow more room for the tubed headers ! torker new in 2006
                   
                 Which ones are the best on price/quality ?   Cant afford the stainless polished ones.     :(

    What size holley? IMO, the timing is retarded, more initial will help. This will affect the total advance but I think 10° should be closer to 15°, which doesnt sound like much but will make a big difference. If the 4160 is a 600 or 650, I would say it's a secondary spring issue. If it's a 750, the carb's too big but you cna try to swap springs to calm it down.

                The holley is a 600cfm, and i set the timing with my 25 yr old timing light at 10* (need a new one with adjustable adv)

                But the motor doesnt seem to like anymore advance than that, the idle begins to slow off if i go more !

    We really need to stop propogating the Myth that a 750 carb is "too big" for a 340 or even a 318. I'll believe that when the cars running stock eliminator in NHRA stop doing 10's  :lol:

    And a big carb will work fine on a mild small block too. My 109mph 318 is proof. A 1.8 second 60 ft time with a stock convertor is not bogging.

    The other thing I didn't see mentioned is what rear end ratio and tire height/size. 2.76/3.23/3.55/3.91?

    And just for fun, what kind of car were you trying to race? There are some import cars out there that are really fast in stock form.

I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

    Its fixed. it was just play in the accelerator pump lever, i adjusted it.

         By the way............it was a nissan 200sx, the type they use for drifting,     :bigsmile:
