which fasteners for upper fender bolts?
« on: March 30, 2009 - 06:55:22 PM »
I started to install the fasteners on the inner fenders to start to position my fenders and I ran into a snag. There are 2 kind of fasteners in the fender bolt kit. There are some rectangular shaped ones and some round shaped ones. You can see both types in this pic. I am needing to know which ones to snap onto the upper inner fenders. Thanks in advance.

Seems like my 74 challenger upper inner fenderwell had the "larger" square shaped ones, and the smaller round ones were up front where the fender attaches to the front of the radiator support.   My fender nut/bolt kit had less 'round' ones so the part count helped to determine locations.
I'd get a second opinion too.

Hard to make heads or tales of it. I only have 4 of the rectangular fasteners and I remember the original ones were like that. The other ones do not lock onto the inner fender right but the round base of the nut side of the fastener seems like it would secure a fender pretty good. I am at a loss as to why there are studs in the fender bolt kit. My car did not have studs securing the fenders but someone else stated that their car did. Weird indeed.

I'm the one that had the studs at 3 center locations at top of fender.    All the top fasteners on mine have 'nutplates' that locked to the fenderwell.

Look on this forum in EBOD PICS, OUR T/A.   There's the nuts/studs, etc.

Well Ill be.  I guess that explains the 4 rectangular fasteners. If my car is supposed to be like that T/A then I would only use the rectangular ones on the extreme ends on both sides. Now its getting a bit clearer. Wonder why my car and my other 71 parts car was not like that? Both of those cars had bolts all the way down on both sides.

Tops of the fenders inside the engine compartment 5/16x18x1" bolts with small square nutclips,  larger nutclips on bottom where fender meets rocker, small round clips along core support, double threaded studs under fender where supported from bottow of fender (near top dood hinge), also double threaded studs and nuts where fender and rocker meet..  Hope this helps  :2thumbs:

R/T Specialties. Seems to be a very complete body bolt kit. I will know pretty soon if its all there but it seems to have everything covered. They have individual bolt kits as well but to me the body bolt kit gave the best value even with a couple of kits included that I do not need.

Thanks dougs, nice of you to post which ones and where they go  :2thumbs:
