Front frame rails
« on: March 25, 2009 - 07:03:20 PM »
I'm looking for front frame rails for my 74 barracuda. Does anyone know where to find them? and has anyone put any in before? I found this ad on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/E-BODY-FRONT-FRAME-RAIL-RH-CHALLENGER-CUDA-1970-1971_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ140715QQihZ016QQitemZ260370337316

they look legit but i was wondering if anyone had experience with new front frame rails.

any tips/suggestion on installing would be helpful! I've got a long ways to go on the frame/body of my car. Right now I'm trying to find a place to work on it, other than on a block patio we made in my parent's backyard. I'm getting tired of fighting the weather. But as soon as i find a place the first thing will probably be the frame rails and firewall, then the rocker panels, moving back to the quarters and wheelwell. suggestions on the order? the underside of the car is rusted out pretty bad. frame rail has holes, rocker panels are caked with bondo, don't even want to tear it out yet, scared of what i might find  :faint:

Thanks!
-Erik

AMD is Auto Metal Direct.  They have body panels and frame components for most muscle era Mopars.  They likely have most of the parts you are looking for.

You can download a catalogue at http://www.autometaldirect.com/

Erik, you need to develop a plan to get this car going, I wouldnt rush out and buy frame rails, YET. I am sure you will need them, but use your resources wisely.
First thing you need to do is get yourself a safe working area, working on the ground, outside on the patio is less then desireable for the scope of work your suggesting you need to do. You need a good solid cement pad (floor) that has covering, either a garage, or a good solid "cover-it" shelter. Then you can get it set up on 4 tall jack stands and plan your approach.
Second, get a notebook, and start writing up what you need to do. Use a page for each "Major" repair, then on each page write what you need to do to accomplish the repair, ie: Fix Floors, Need, floor pans, torch or plasma, hammers, welder, clamps,,
Now that your plan is developing, make a list of what you need to buy first, from most important to least important. Here is where good research pays huge dividends. Check and double check prices and availability, gather as many catalogs as possible, and mark them up to suit your needs. Make a wish list, and a gotta have list for all the areas you need to work.
Now plan your budget based on your research, make your purchases count, get the needs first, then your wishes.
A good tip, whatever your guesstimate budget is, double it.

Good luck, and remember to HAVE FUN

Erik,
the rail assemblie on ebay are from dynacorn, i have contacted them and they are based off of the 70 model year, which technically are different than other years, the correct fron rail we should see around summer time. this would be for the rail only, the one your looking at is an assembly for 1200.00 each side, I would make media blast the car to get a complete list of parts needed then see what your budget will bring, I have ALL of the parts that you will need in stock when your ready. any questions feel free to contact me, thanks David
