I was out of work a number of months during '06 and have been out of work since late '08.  The contrast between these two years is disturbing.  In '06 I was getting calls from headhunters about every other day it seemed, and interviews on a regular basis.
My investments were doing well and I was making some money on the side buying and selling things on ebay.  Some of my car parts were bringing some pretty high bids.
So far this year I have had one phone interview.  I hear from a headhunter maybe once a month.  When I call them, they sound bored and depressed and tell me they have very little in the way of requisitions coming in.
My investments are in the tank and some of my stocks have been lowering their dividends.  I sold a couple things on ebay and they did OK, but not what they would have brought 3 years ago.
I sure hope things turn around soon!

Guess I'm lucky too. I get by but I have no extra cash like in years past. I turned away from depending on an employer after 9/11 when they tossed me out like I was nothing after 24 years. Never again. I survive now with my rental properties that pay my Mortgage, my bands, the work my best friend gives me in his machine shop (usually two good weeks a month) and whatever else I can scrounge up to fill in the holes. You learn how to survive when you have to and you do better work when only your name is on it. :grinyes:

Times are tough i guess .I cant say i understand what every one is going through . I have never had a regular job after 35 years working for myself  .never once in my life have i woke up thinking i have a job past a month or had a paid weeks vacation this is a concept i dont understand so i have saved every dime i ever made for tough times. and yes i have had to live off my savings many times over the years .most of my friends tell me i work to hard or i should get an easier job. but i have found easy jobs have a wait list and plenty of people willing to sit and wait . credit cards and greed have landed us here now the hard part is to grasp the concept that we are just common people that think we are more than we are .foreign workers will ultimately show us our worth with global interaction . good luck my 2 cents :)
