Rust Repair Questions
« on: April 14, 2009 - 02:19:37 AM »
Both lower rocker panels on my 96 Cougar need some attention.  I have used bondo before and it starts to bubble at the first sign of rain.  I had read somewhere on this board that fiberglass is the way to go when filling in a panel.  What product should I get this time and what tips would be helpful when using fiberglass.

First thing is to get all of the rust out for sure.  I know they make a metal prep to kill the rust also and I would use that.  As for a fiberglass product I have used the smooth type of product that is like bondo and mixes the same.  Get it as smooth as you can to start with.  I hope this helps.  When I finished the fiberglass I used a 2 part spot puddy to finish it off also.  Good luck on your repair.  What you are talking about is why I do not like bondo.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development
