My heater box was a mouse motel
« on: April 22, 2009 - 10:52:13 PM »
Well, I am waiting on some (expensive) parts to arrive and was looking for stuff to tinker with while waiting.....plenty to do on my project, so finding something wasnt hard.

Decided to seewhat I could do about what was rattling around in my heater motor cage....and try to figure out why I have no airflow.

Well......here's the cause....

Looks like my heater box was a holiday inn for meese.

Well, I have the box  all torn down at this point...gonna scrub out what Ican and paint the metal, etc.....the foam and that stuff could use replaced to....gonna hafta try and locate that stuff I guess.

I will say that pulling the heater box down was pretty easy, for this first timer.  The cables are a bit of a pain, especially the top one, on the drivers side controller.

The insulation under my dash os pretty much toast too....dirty and mouse-dropping ridden.....gonna pull that out as well I suppose.....

Just ordered the gaskets and cardboard from DMT.

My heater core looked ok to me and had not leaked when I did some testing with it a week or so ago so I am going to cross my fingers and put that one back in.  It looks like someone may have repalced it once....

What are the chances I can buy (inexpensively) the small plastcic bracket that holds the cable  onto the heater control?  Mine was broken when I looked under there.....disintegrated when I started messing with it...

Yup, the meeces had a lot of fun in my car when it was in storage. They even ate most of my broadcast sheet!  :swear:

Oh! That was the other thing....I found a piece of my broadcast sheet up above the glove box....it was very dry and crumbly....and just a small section.... :stomp:

I guess I that was about the last place to look......no fender tag, no broadcast sheet......Bummer.

Same here, rotten little vermin, dont forget to check the fresh air intake right above the clutch pedal, I found a huge nest up in there. Well correct me if im wrong i think thats the air intake heres a pic its just left of the pedal bracket. and carefully check the nest for large pieces of your sheet.

Little mice wreak havoc chewing stuff up. As for me, 2 weeks ago I found a giant dead rat in a nest he made under my rear car seat I have stashed. This sucker was huge. Thankfully, no damage. Just a bad smell.  :puke:

I had left these green balls around it. Guess he was hungry for the bait I left him.
