Shifter rods configuration
« on: April 19, 2009 - 12:27:16 PM »
The second shifter steel plate that bolts onto the transmission closest to the tail shaft; I have seen with an offset bend. Then the rod end goes in with the clip facing you.

Both of mine shifter steel plates that bolt on are both flat. It would rub on the body if I did that. Doing it the other way, and the angles for the rod going in just don't seem right.
Anyone with a good pic on the shifter rods using the flat ones?

Yes, you have to use the one with the bend in it or it wont clear. all 3 of mine have the bend and I can take a pic once I get home.

I kept all my parts. I don't know how but it was working fine using both flat plates.

Sorry Mike, no picture of flat plates. All 3 of mine look just like this. But if you are sure that yours had flat plates then you'll have to figure it out.

In the late '70s, My Direct-><-Connection speed book listed two alternate plates that I could buy that had 2 sets of holes on top. I bought a set then and this is the set above, also consisted of a flat plate and a bent plate. Are you sure that someone didn't switch your plate in your car's past?

Thanks for the pic Rob.  :2thumbs:
I do believe that the offset is the right choice. However, what I really wanted to make sure is if they ever did come with dual flat plates. I'm kinda douubting that now. If anyone did have dual flat plates originally, I would like to see and hear about it.

Mine look just like shelbydog's.  It is a 70 and original also.  Seems that straight would be a pita with it hitting the other rod
