Axle end play?
« on: April 23, 2009 - 10:06:37 PM »
Sorry for asking a question that has been asked before but I can't figure this out. I put the left axle in and tightened it down, is it normal for play on this side because I have some. I put the right side in ( following other posts on this site ) and I can't get any play at all. What am I missing

did you hit the right axle with a hammer to seat the brg ??, do you have a sure grip if so what type ?, there is a flaoting pin the the cone style & a pair of buttons that need to be in place with the clutch type

The sure grip unit is a brand new Auburn Gear unit (cone I believe). Here is what I did, I put the left axle in, seating it with a hammer and tightening down all the axle nuts.  There is end play on this side. On the right side I backed the adjuster out all the way and put the axle in seating it with a couple whacks of a hammer. I then Tightened 4 of the 5 nuts. And following shelbydoggs other posts I should then be able to move the adjuster to adjust endplay. This is were I have my problem, as soon as I tighten 4 of the bolts all end play is gone and I cant turn the adjuster at all.
