How many people on here race or work with a 7 second car?
« on: April 22, 2009 - 11:19:53 AM »
7 seconds or faster on the 1/4 mile. Just curious. I know most of the guys on here have daily drivers, but I'm just curious if anyone here races a 7 second car or works on a crew that races one. I bet it's pretty intense actually driving a car that fast!

I used to go that fast.  7.80's pretty regularly.  The coolest thing was the way it gave me tunnel vision if I hadn't raced that fast in a while.  That goes away after few passes though.  I know some folks with cars that fast, but I don't work on/drive them.....     :burnout:

I know a guy who has a pro mod 55 Chevy that runs low 6's. The car is insane, but I have not had the privelage to race or work on one (yet   :burnout: ).

Used to. The motor is sold to a guy with a rail and the chassis is for sale. Might put it back together with a PS style Hemi (have the heads already) or might build a new car if it sells for what we want. Ran ProMod but the class just overtook the old motor. It was quick for a single stage fogger Nitrous car with a small motor (630 cube KB w/ B-1/TS heads) but a first round duck with all the blower and big cube nitrous cars in the class doing low 6's and high 5's. It's tough to compete with guys that wipe their butts with $100 bills like Shafiroff and Halsey and Cannon. And YES, they are always a handful to get down the track.

its not as big a deal as you would think as an earlier post said you get used to it real fast . many drag guys move up to dragsters then get board and end up in altered or funny cars .its never really about the speed but the drive . i have been in most formulas and liked them all . if you are on a budget try a 250 shifter kart 25k and a much better rush at 155 than a 200 plus ride in a straight line . look at what the tf guys do on the off season the chile bowl and midgets .

I would love to get into the SCCA style racing, but I can't afford the membership at the local track. I can't even really afford the car I have now, and I probably will never make it into the 7's unless I get a much better paying job. But even then I don't know enough about engines to get something to go that fast.

The fastest dude I know runs a 70 Challenger with a 472 (?) Hemi that runs on 114. He runs 9.80's, but the fastest I know. If everything goes well then I am going to do my best to get my Challenger into the 10's. The longer I think about it the more I think I should just make it a race car and forget about the street legal part.

That's true for a slower car with like a ProGas 9.90 car. Most of them shift one time going down the track.

Hop in a FAST car and have the tires shake once and you'll see how easy it is when it rattles the teeth in your head and and any attempt to let off and get back into it will turn the car 180*. That's why you don't see the ProStock drivers try to drive through problems like the fuel racers do.
They abort the run. The fuel cars have much longer wheelbases and are more predictable.

Looks like fun, huh?

That's a pretty crazy crash. I was watching a show a little while ago, I can't remember the name, but it was showing highlights and crashes and outtakes from the past 2 or 3 years and there was a top fuel that broke right behind the cab and folded up like a piece of paper. That caused it spin sideways and basically shatter in a ton of pieces.

I definitely think knowing that any run could be that insane would keep the adrenaline flowing.

I started working to get my skydiving license when I got back from Iraq the first time I went over there. I'll tell you I have never experienced adrenaline like that, even in combat! If you have never skydived I would definitely suggest doing it at least once before you die. It is an experience you will never forget.

Think I'll pass on the skydiving. I've had enough excitement in my life already.  :(
