Cragar SS series 61 type rims
« on: June 25, 2004 - 12:04:44 PM »
Has anyone tried using these old style type of rims?  If so how are they?  I was told they require an oval washer behind the lug nut to fit a 73 Cuda, since they are made for about 3 or 4 different applications.  I was wondering how the fit was, and if they had any problems with using the oval washers for positioning the rim on the hubs/drums.

I assume you are talking about these rims?? Yes it is true that you need washers behind the lug nuts.  They usually come with the set.  I have no problems with them . . . just takes alittle finesse when installing the tires!

Exactly those.  Did they mount OK on the stock studs without spacers to resize the bolt pattern?  I had bought a set for my 72 Duster and had to buy 1" spacers to put behind the rims becasue they didn't sell them to fit the stock bolt pattern.

Yep fit great!  No spacers needed???  ???  Sometimes there alittle difficult to get lined up but with alittle persuasion, they straighten up.  Growing up I always loved the way these rims looked and told myself that when I get the hardtop done, those were the rims for me . . . . and still to this day . . . no regrets!  ;)  ;D  ;D  ;D

4cruzin - that's exactly what I wanted my Challenger to look like when I had it in '84. Never got that far though, ended up selling it for $250  :'(

I love that 70's Super Stock look and I know what you mean -- at one time those were the *only* wheels to have.

73440cuda,

I picked up a set for the Challenger.  They are Uni-Lugs and I got the oval washers that are made for them.  Just make sure they're tight and check them often, especially if you run hard.

I think they're the only wheels to run on a musclecar.  ;D
