Spark Plug Recommendations
« on: April 23, 2009 - 03:40:34 PM »
I am sure this has been asked before, but can't find suggestions. I am just wondering what plug type (manufacturer) and heat range folks are running here that use an MSD or other aftermarket high voltage electronic ignition system on their car. I am having a hard time trying to navigate some of the sites to find a good plug. It's the usual thing...year/make/model/engine size. Can't plug in stuff like aluminum heads, high compression, MSD ignition ect. So what plugs are you folks running with MSD ect. I will need an extended reach (3/4") with my Stealth heads & I know I need a step lower heat range than factory with the MSD, but I am not sure what is good with my engine combo: MSD box, naturally aspirated 1000 cfm carb, Alum heads, 11:1 comp, big block 543 stroker. Any suggestions on plugs?? Thanks!!! Yoo guys rock!!

I tried Champion and Bosch spark plugs in my blower small block. Aluminium heads 9:1 compression, 10psi boost. Both worked very well and i didnt notice any difference in performance. My carbs flooded many times during the racing but bosch plugs survived very well. Heat range was 2step lower than the stock plugs.
Before this i have always used ngk plugs and they also work.

I think any of these brands work well if you choose the correct heat range.

EDIT: Gap can be opened a little with msd ignition for a bigger spark. Atleast in N/A engines.

NGK R5671A-8

advanced auto has them...

try them out and may need to go down a heat range for your app but this is a great starting point  :2thumbs:

I run NGK's in my truck and car now. Used to run Autolite until they were stamping China on them. Japan atleast makes a better plug then China  :faint:

These are the ones a local racer recommended to me.  No complaints here.
