Problem with aluminum radiator
« on: April 24, 2009 - 07:04:02 PM »
Hi all

I just bought a 26" aluminum radiatorfrom Oscar's Radiators on ebay......

Got it today (really fastshipping)....but am disappointed..... :swear:

The box was opened and looked to be slightly crushed on one end......The radiator on that end seems to have been dropped or something as it is pushed in...

Also, I am thinking  I received the wrong one -- on the drivers side, when the top bolt hole is used there is nothing to bolt the bottom bolt to......plus the bottom of the radiator sits out away from the rad support as the bottom of the rad support prevents the bottom of the radiator to get any closer... look near the plastic baggie....you will see how the bottom sticks out.

The radiator is actually sitting on the bottom part of the rad support right now.  The curved part of the support on the bottom.....

On the right side, the radiator sits a good inch higher, again, because the radiator's bottom is sitting on the rad support

All I can figure is that the wrong one was shipped to me...I cant see how it will fit in this vehicle. It doesnt seem to match up on the left side at all as it supposed to.  Te ad says they bolt in just like original.....I expected to have to shim out the right side, as I have a 22" rad car...but with it sitting on the rad support as it is, I have to believe this was a mistake.

I emailed the seller with all this...we'll see what they say... :'(

Something dont sound right on that for sure.  I hope they give you good news and can get the right one for your car.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Thanks for the dimensions!

I just did some measuring....

This radiator is 22 3/4" on the driver's side, about 1/4" too tall, which is about how much the bolt hole would be off when I raise the radiator to fit properly top to bottom.

One the right side it measures 23 3/16"...almost 3/4" too tall,.

The radiator is  a half inch out of square, being taller on one side than the other.

Since it is damaged, I asked them to swap it out. Perhaps the next one will be the correct dimensions?  I suppose this could be a one-off sort of thing...I realize that sometimes these things happen in manufacturing.

But wow......being a shade too large is one thing...but out of square like that???

I'd email your pics & mine & request they inspect the replacment prior to shipping, if the can't find one that is 18.5" from top monting hole to bottom forget it, will not work.  :2cents:

Hey Bullit, is that a 26" rad?

Or would it even matter?

Let me know...I emailed them my pics and will email yours too....

The fact that the radiator is off-square like that bothers me...seems sloppy.....

It is an OE 26" radiator & it should not matter.

Thats actually exactly what I was hoping.....if yours is a 26" and has those measurements, thats what the aluminum one should measure.....

Thanks!

Just wanted to followup......

Heard back from Oscar's radiators.....I was told that the other one they have measures the same as thefirst, so they say they will refund my money once they receive the first one back.

On the upside, I found a 26 inch 2-core (dealer replacement, 374), slightly used (looks almost brand new in and out to me) for $150............Not sure if thats steep or not for a use dradiator...but I figured the Autozone chinese stuff is $170 plus tax anyways.....so I still saved a few bucks......the autozone ones have a lifetime warranty though........

But this one went right in.....still have to drill and shim, but the rad is setting in the car right now, lines up perffectly.

Thanks, all, for the great advice!

Now gotta watch for a shroud.....are all 26" shrouds offset? I saw on one ebay that didnt look offset..... :clueless:
