Burnout Story
« on: March 25, 2002 - 08:38:33 PM »
Years ago, the house I had had a street right behind it, and another one that T'd into it. My wife & brother-in-law built a 6 foot high fence across the back because when we weren't home people would drive through our driveway and back yard to get to the street behind us! A friend of mine was visiting one time, and I took my previous Cuda (340 4 speed) back on the street behind the house to show him how it could smoke the tires through the first three gears. The street had no houses or anything on it (other than mine at the end) so I didn't have to worry about anything. Chuck is sitting in the seat next to me, and I light em up. I'm watching the tach, and when it hits redline I grab another gear, then redline and another gear. When I hit 4th., I look up, and that damn board fence is coming at us! I slammed on the brakes, and went over the curb, stopping just before I hit the fence. Chuck looked at me and said "boy, that would have really messed the car up!" I said "Car hell, if I'd hit that fence, my wife would have really messed ME up!"

Ross, it was a pretty stout motor. It was blueprinted and the heads were ported, had a MP 484/284 cam,10.5 to 1 compression, and Holley 750. I also had 4.56 gears, which helps a lot. ;D I don't really regret having to sell it, now that I've got another one, but I do regret never making a pass on the track with it to see what it would do. I'd have never been able to get it to hook up on street tires, and I couldn't afford slicks back then. :-/
