My 73 Cuda steering is waundering help?
« on: May 20, 2009 - 09:07:58 PM »
Hi all;
Just got the Cuda back from alignment after I replaced the drum brake set-up back to discs. It has new front end rebuild kit, tie rods ends adjuster sleeves, upper, lower ball joints, and LCA bushings. The steering wheel has a little play and the car wander left to right to left going down the road and is very unsetteling to drive at 60+.
Only 17 days to the Hot Rod Power Tour/ Mopower tour!!!
What should I look at first to find the problem?
Thanks!
Don

If you just had the alignment done, I would tell them to recheck it. Usually the toe being too negative will cause this. Did they give you specs and the adjusted spec printouts? The caster might cause some of that too, but toe is most likely the culprit. Camber being off might just make it pull left or right depending on how its sitting. Look for too much negative toe. Also, make sure your air pressure is even side to side.

it needs to be aligned with max caster , 1/2* neg camber & toe at 1/16"
it will steer like a new car set this way

 Will more negative camber (say -1*) cause waundering?  :clueless:

My alignment shop said the steering box was adjusted too tight the steering wheel would not return back on turns (power steering) (the guy I bought it from hid a bunch of things and when I got it the steering was messed up) My guy loosened the adjuster and it drives down the road straight and true, there is some wheel play now but he says the box is worn from being adjusted too tight. Maybe after the summer I'll get a Firm Feel stage II box.
Just a few more little things to finish before the Hot Rod Power tour begins!
Thanks all!
Don

I would still adjust the alignment
more camber could cause the wheels to pull but if it is even it shouldn`t
