fast idle solenoid wire
« on: May 12, 2009 - 07:57:04 AM »
Can someone tell me if the fast idle solenoid wire in my Bill Evans wiring harness is supposed to have 12v to it?

I am running an edelbrock carb and wont need that, but would like to hook up the electric choke (just needs ground and 12v power from the switch according to edelbrock manual) and was hoping it would be "that easy"...I am guessing it wont be, but thought I would ask..LOL

Thanks folks!

On my '73 the fast idle wire plugged into one of the alternator spade terminals & had provision for the alt. wire to piggyback off it... So I'd guess it gets 12v at least at some point, I believe when the alt. is energized. May work but I'd check it thoroughly 1st.

both get there power from the same wire!!

I just remembered my 73's choke has a power wire for it's choke heater... A spade plugged into a regulator that mounts on the manifold that the choke coil plugs into, if yours has this wire a jumper bypassing the regulator going straight to your choke should work fine.

Ok, this kind of ties into my other elec. question, on the alt wires, then....

The fast idle solenoid wire appears to be two wires toegther at the spade connector (black or dark brown I think).....

My harness has 4 wires going to the alt......a lugged wire and 3 spaded/female wires (blue, green, brown) but my alt has only two spade connectors......right now the brown wire is just hanging, having no where to go....

Wondering if the brown wire is somehow tied to the dark/dual wire??
