Just picked up car...again.  Did not get to really drive it at least not till tomorrow.  Trans shop said they tried changing the pivot point, improved a little but still no downshift over 55 mph.

I went to Trans Go web site and got some tech notes, that talk about "late shifts, no passing gear" and they mention the Kick Down outer sleeve may be installed backwards.  When I shared that with the shop he pulled out the "extra" parts from the shift kit...and the tech said he may have installed it backwards not knowing one way from the other.   Now the owner was really ticked and embarassed.  To top it off the shop is closed for the next two weeks - owner is on vacation.  Don't you just love small towns!

Anyhow, I have another appt. to go back in mid May after they get back from vacation.  Hopefully they "reinstall" the shift kit properly and life will be good.

Below is a picture of the linkage"

Well, just picked up the car...again.  Still does not downshift properly, no passing gear over 55mph, and dosen't drop into 1st at WOT unless  at 20 mph or less.   Guess I will try another trans shop.

I just noticed that you DON'T have a return spring on the lever on the tranny? On the picture at the carb the cable is extendedout past the adjustable stop? Shouldn't that be always pulled up to the stop. Meaning you need a spring at the tranny to pull things back?
I'm no expert though? :dunno: I'm learning this setup myself!
Maybe our resedent tranny expert will chim in on that one?  ( tractransman )
Look at the pictures Tractransman helped me out with on my post?

I'm not a trans guy, but I don't think it is the cable.  Actually I have throttle and downshift cable, much neater set up than stock.

The trans shop tried:
- Lokar Cable
- Valve Body
- Physically pulled trans, dissassembled, replaced a internal valve, reassembled
- Blew engine on test drive (1st gear at 7,000+ rpm)
- Had insurance handle new engine, that was absoutley no fun.
- 2nd valve body
- 2nd Trans Go shift kit
- Mimimum 12 visits since November 2008
- Still no joy!

I guess part of the problem is a fairly small town, and no one who works on muscle cars!  Looks like I will need to go to San Diego (50 miles) to find someone who has the knowledge to work on this!

Did you see what I meant about the return spring? Maybe that's the problem? :dunno:

Sure did, maybe Tractransman can weigh in here and help clear this up!

If a spring in required on the trans arm how much tension should there be?

Sure would be nice if that is all it takes!

Thanks

The spring has to be on there, the tension is not important. It is just a return spring.

As soon as the exhaust cools down I will use an light throttle spring and take it for a spin in the morning.  All of this over no spring?  Seems so simple.

I'll let you all know in the morning, Thanks!

I am not saying the spring is going to fix your problem, but it needs to be on there.
