Trans seals

So I get the oil and filter change on my 904 trans last week (been a busy week for me last, just got time today to get on here).

When the trans sits overnight  it has slow engagement in all gears and slips once or twice from a dead stop in any gear-has a manual valve body. Once ran for 5 mins trans works prefect and fine throughout the rest of the day.

Was told its the seals inside and its really no problem and the trans will last "forever". Maybe a seal conditioner would help out but then I hear those make the seals turn to jelly after awhile.

Thinking of just letting it be, right now its very easy to live with-not sure once it gets cold again but that is many months away.

Your convertor is draining while it sits. Common with the 904/727. Put in in neutral for a while before moving and that will solve your problem.

No, I do start the engine in neutral for years now but this problem is new. I did adjust the kickdown band but not the low band. Its really not too bad but am torn if I want to add some seal conditioner to the tranny fluid.  Be great to improve it but not if I'm risking making the problem worst later on.

Well I'm not big on cures in a can, but I do have a friend that's had a car repair center for decades that swears by this stuff called "Trans-Medic".  :dunno:

Used it twice before...both times when the tranny was a goner..first time it gave the trans super hard shifts, car was fishtailing after the 1-2 shift  :icon16: but sadly it did not last....2nd time it soften the shifts up...was shifting slow but firm before.

Have a bottle in my basement, its about 5 years old...not sure if I want to use it or not..tranny shifts good now, firm but could be harder but hate to lose the firm shifts.

That's why I don't use any miracle cure in a bottle. It's always a temporary fix at best.  :grinyes:

Well I didn't add anything....ran it a bunch of times since then..all is still fine. I start it and found thou its best to go to 1st gear first and once engage a few seconds later hold my foot on the brake while holding the rpms up a bit. Then back it out of the garage.

Best to take off in 1st gear from a dead stop and once running for 3-4 mins all is good again all day long...even stop for 5-6 hours.

I can sure live with it once a day like that...after the first few mins tranny works great..every shift. I'm leaving well enough alone.

It is full,right? Checking it idling in neutral? If so ,add a half a quart and see if it helps,your dipstick may not be accurate. It is making me wonder if the fluid is warming up and raising the level a little.

Yes the fluid is right...the first day it did it I did add more trans fluid...always run it a bit over the  line  but still added more and made no difference.

So the next day I drop the pan and change the filter..wasn't too bad, about the size of a half dollar of stuff in the pan (don't ask me what it was cause I don't know).

Added 4  and a half quarts and still the same...I do like running extra oil...oh but I did check it at the half way mark like the factory says the level should be. 

Its a good 5 years old (I did check all the valve body bolts and they were tight..a few moved ever so slight). 

I use that blue B&M trick shift oil too.

Really once it engages in both forward and reverse it works fine...just once or twice it may not want to move right away if I come to a full stop before its been running I say 5 mins max...most times its fine as soon as its out of the garage.

Never acts up once moving even cold.
