Mopar part number for exhaust studs ?
« on: June 03, 2009 - 11:21:02 AM »
Anyone know the part number I would need for the 4 exhaust studs on J heads being used on a 318?

I want to replace 2 of them and wanted to go Mopar if I can.  But the dealer folks will have no idea...LOL

Thanks!

I would just get a universal 5/16" stud

Think they will seal just as well?

I seem to remember reading somewhere, including in the manual, where it was said to use the real deal, as it needs to seal properly (coolant leaks and such).....

Or was this just marketing bs?  LOL

I guess any parts store should have 5/16" studs, right?

I really cannot see a Mopar stud being better , just use teflon thread sealer with them

I have had the best luck using some permatex on the threads. The last time I put a motor together, I thought I should use teflon thread sealer. After a few months of driving, I had antifreeze leaks out of a few studs. I used new studs & cleaned the threads in the heads. I am in the process of pulling the manifolds and repairing the leaks. I am planning on using the hi temp. Permatex. That's just my 2 cents worth.

I have always had real good luck with permatex....

I think they make it using baby poop......if you have had a baby in your life you know what I mean....messy and sticks to everything...LOL

But man it does seem to work.

Shadango,
I know what you mean. I have an 8 month old boy. I definetely know what you mean. If you could get rid of the smell, it would make a great adhesive.
