Wanted...pics of flat black 70 Barracudas or Cudas
« on: June 02, 2009 - 11:48:14 AM »
I have an extra 70 Barracuda that we call "Mr. Rusty". I plan to make some rust repairs and use this car and a lot of parts that I have lying around to build a daily driver. My plan is to just paint it flat black, possibly even just priming with black polyester primer. This will be a low budget build, not a show car. I have a ton of used and new parts lying around from other projects that would work great on a project like this. I just bought a complete fresh 440/727 driveline that runs great. This should be a fun project for the shop. I don't have to worry about everything being absolutely perfect on this one and I'll be able to park it anywhere without worrying about door dings or paint damage.
I would like to lower it a couple of inches and give the car a ratrod look...sort of. The whole idea hasn't totally jelled in my head yet. I have three hoods to choose from. Flat, bulge or bolt on fiberglass six pack. I have three sets of wheels to choose from. Hopsters (16"), rallyes (15") and steelies (14").

Anyway, I haven't been able to find very many pics of flat black 70's on the net. I was hoping some of you guys might have some to share. Even other year models would be okay.
When I get started on the project, I'll start a thread. Should be interesting.

Yeah, that's very similar to what I had in mind. I did a little tweaking on one of his pics to get it a lttle closer to what I'm thinking. I have that hood and would really need to get some larger wheels. I may just paint my rallyes black to save some cash. Not sure yet.
Here's the tweaked pic.

Aaron, your car photographs very well. You wouldn't think that a flat black car would. I got the idea from Mike when he built Mr. Angrier. I'm still thinking about sanding my black Daytona clone down with 3000 grit trizac to make it flatter.
Thanks for the pics. They will come in handy. I tend to do a lot of thinking about how I want a car to look before I ever start. I'll build the car in my head a hundred times before ever moving the car from storage into the bodyshop.
Here's a couple of pics of the donor car for the project. The car on the ground is Mr. Rusty and the car on top is my Tor-Red bench seat 71 Cuda that I plan to restore later on.
