I have been a dairy-farmer all my life. Sold all 500 milking cows last September but still have almost 300 dairy heifers. I have always had an interest in rodeo, specifically bucking bulls since several of my friends have been bull riders, some at the professional level. Long story short, I went to a nearby bucking stock sale last year and bought one heifer and 1/2 interest in a yearling bull. I did not want to die some day and regret that I didn't follow through with one of my dreams to try my hand at breeding and raising bucking bulls. Anyway the odds of getting a great bull on the first try is about the same as winning the lottery, but it apparently has happened to me and I couldn't be happier. The past few years have been pretty tough and very stressful with low milk prices, loss of a regular income, the loss of my Dad, etc. so I'm glad to get some passion back in my life (other than my family and cars
).
My bull as a 2 year old won his first futurity and placed high in his second, qualifying him to compete at Las Vegas in November for the finals which pays $100,000 to the winner (wish me luck
. He is currently on the cover of Bull Pen magazine alongside the greatest bucking bull in history, "Bodacious". Some people who have been doing this for 20 years have never had a bull win a futurity competing against 175 or so of the best young bulls in the country each time. Just had to share this with you guys.....
My bull is the one in the middle...
Here is my only bucking bred cow and her new calf.
