figured out a few things on my own!
I did a bunch of research, seems to be this is a VERY COMMON PROBLEM on 02-05 Ram 1500's w posi. Your dealer knows this! Turns out to of them were bad. The good new is if you catch the problem before the pieces of broken clips chew the case up the repair is not that expensive. New clips my cost were $7.55. (the clutch packs and gears looked fine). The updated clips are beefier than the originals. I admit I know jack about this, I take things apart NOT put them together!!
Anyway... We made a tool out of a explorer torsion bar to back off the adjusters. No need to go to the snappy or matty man. Of course I've got this kind of stuff laying around. You can compress the clutch packs w 3/4 inch bolts and a few washers. After that things were pretty basic. Just put back together in reverse order.
Still have one question tho... even tho I marked where the adjusters were before I backed them out I'd still like to check the lash.(things should be close tho). I've got a dial indicator, I know the spec, but what am I baseing the measure off of?
??
