    Hey guys..

    I need some help and opinions on car storage…

    I just bought a house with an small detached garage, uninsulated, unheated, concrete floor (fair condition, cracked).

    Since my cuda is up in my dad’s ultimate garage (two blocks away!).. this garage is going to be for storage of my ’79 Volare.. it’s my first car, and was my grandfathers.. is another project and needs some work, but not right now…

    My question is…

    What precautionary actions I can take before I put the car in storage to keep it in its current condition… here what I was thinking..

    Plastic on the floor, with plywood on top, and putting the car up on jack stands, with a cover…. battery out of car..


    What else should I do?

    charcoal? i dunno... :clueless:

    I put dryer sheets (those things the wife puts in the clothes dryer to make the clothes smell good) on the floor boards to keep the mice away. Does the same thing as moth balls but doesn't smell as bad.

    Put some rolls of steel wool or a tennis ball if it will fit, in the tail pipe to keep mice from crawling up your exhaust system.
    Always put the sunvisors down, for some reason mice like to climb up on sunvisors and chew holes in the headliner.
    Put a couple dryer sheets under the hood too, to keep varmits from chewing on your wires.
    Don't forget some Stabil in the gas tank.

    Depends how long you're storing. You may want to remove the wheels/tires and store them on their side in a better environment. Also might want to drain the fuel and run carbs dry, and put a penetrant in the spark plug holes. For that matter I think all fluids are generally removed for best long term storage, though I might be wrong about that.
