AMD AAR Cuda
« on: July 13, 2011 - 10:11:28 AM »
Hi guys,I am restoring an AAR for someone, and so far all the metal has been AMD on it and wanting to keep it that way,I was one of the ones waiting for a year for their front fenders, good thing it was the drivers side as with their mishap on the pass sides.
This is what the car entailed for AMD panels, and want to say I am not advertising for them so where their parts fit I will say and where they did'nt I will say. But,without a doubt, compared to the "other" makers of these panels, way, way, way better.
Roof skin, upper cowl, both A pillars, full trunk floor, gas tank braces, both extensions, trunk latch support, rear valance, front valance, and drivers side front fender.Unfortunatly for me,the rear window dutchman did not fit that great so bought another brand and it fit their 1/4 panels better than their own piece. And the extensions needed alittle work to line up the holes on the bottom rear of the 1/4's and rear valance, and are alittle short meeting up with the wheel well of the 1/4 panel. But keep in mind you/I am assmebling a whole car like a big model.
The whole car was shelled out to see all panels opening and closing, latching, gaps, etc.Alittle finese had to be done to the quarter panels to meet the shape of the orig doors at the jamb.As expected, you don't think they will jump out of the box and go right on ,do you???
As far as their new front fenders, from what I gather, they have to trash the first set of pass because of antenna hole in the wrong place,IMO,there should'nt be any hole there or make a batch for AAR's that have the antenna on the rear 1/4.Now a guy, like me,that would but one has to weld up a patch on a new fender. The bottom of the fender where it attachs to the rocker by two studs, the stamping is tweaked on one of them,so have alittle dolly work to do.
And like my NOS right front fender, the factory missed the two rivnuts for mounting the lower skinny section of the header panel to the fender, and if AMD copied off an NOS fender, that explains why theirs does'nt have it either.
Although I don't have the doors back on at this moment, the AMD fender fit great, some pics

Nice work!

This is the first time I heard of anyone fitting AMD front 'Cuda fenders on.  I agree; stupid that they drilled holes for the antenna.  Anyone can do that if needed.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing a real comparison between the Goodmark and AMD front fenders as I heard the former ain't THAT bad.
