Shaker hood template and headliner.
« on: June 12, 2009 - 02:06:06 PM »
Do any of you guys have a templet for a shaker hood conversion?  Figured someone had done the big cut on a flat one and would have this laying around.  Please give me a PM if you can help me out.  This is for a Challenger hood.

Also does anyone have a black headliner for a 71 chally 5 bow the might want to sell.  I'll pay replacement price just dont' want to get wacked with taxes, duty charges and customs holding the thing for a month or more.

If you can send me one as a personal package I'll take 2 in black.  Soon as they get sent as a business I get wacked with all the border B.S.   Please let me know.

Take a look at my resto thread when I did mine.

When you buy the shaker kit from Ben or Roseville, there is no template that I know of.

Looks pretty good..........  I guess I'll need to order the kit up to do this project.  I have a good fiberglass guy that figured we could make one up since I have an extra flat hood but he wanted to know where to put the hole.  I guess we'll save that for another time.  Great info though TC thanks

I have some pictures I'll look for on where to drill the first holes. I'll go hunt for it and see if I can put it on here.

The main thing is: to double and triple check everything measurement wise before you dedicate any holes or cutting.

What you do is on the back center; you drill 2 holes side by side. Then you sawzall them together into one. This is where you begin to do the cut around following the tape you layed out as the template.

The outer edge of the hole of course will fall within the cut edge so it doesn't go out. The ring covers any areas you goofed regardless. On all 4 corners, bring your tape line in just a little. The reason is: because you only have one chance. you don't want to end up that the thru studs on the outer ring the drops in, doesn't even have anywhere to go thru. You can re sawzall whatever is too much later on.

I would recommend reading this article. If after this you need any further info, contact me.

OK, normally Cats don't help Dawgs out but I'm going to make an exception.  :grinyes:

I have a Disc I'm going to send you on everything you ever need on how to do the Shaker conversion. Just PM me your address and you should get it in the mail next week.

Between the disc and the link I sent you, you'll be fine.
And keep us posted on it with pics.  :picture:

Did you still want the disc instructional? I have it ready to send to you.
But you would need to tell me where to send it to. There's too many pictures to post here.

You don't need a template. The underhood bracing is your template. You center it, measure it that it's perfectly even side to side, front and back. Then pencil in the inner area to be cut. Tape around the pencil marks and that is where you will pneumatic sawzall the center portion out.

If HoundDawger doesn't want the disc, then you can have it.
With it; you can ensure that comapring your attempting work matches with what the pictures show on the disc.
