Oil Change Info
« on: June 28, 2009 - 06:48:08 PM »
Just some general info for you guys that have not changed the oil yet on your new Challenger.  All bolts are metric so FYI.  The ground effects plastic plate has 4-10MM bolts and it slides out from underneath the front air dam once unbolted.  The oil pan drain plug is a 13MM bolt and was on fairly tight from the factory.  Note the green factory markings.  The oil filter was almost welded on from the factory and I broke my filter tool trying to remove it. :swear: Had to drive all over town to get a replacement.  The oil after 1000 miles seemed fairly dirty which surprised me.  Added 7-qts of Mobil 1 0W-40 and a new Mobil 1 oil filter.  The Challenger is happy now   A couple pic for your entertainment.

Every new Mopar I ever bought had the factory filter on incredibly tight.  Had to chisel one off.

Yup.  Had the same thing with my 05 Ram that I bought new.  Ive learned that whatever the cost, the dealership gets the first oil change.

Anyone notice that the factory oil filters have the Factory Installed label on the top of the oil filter?

I thought there was a TSB that stated that only 5W20 was recommended to avoid damage to the MDS system...? I know it's true of my Ram.

The 6.1L comes with 0W-40 Mobil 1 from the factory and that is what is recommended in the manual and on the oil fill cap.

That makes sense. The 6.1 doesn't have MDS.
