1966 Plymouth Fury VIP Arrives!

Last Thursday, the 1966 Plymouth Fury VIP (383-4 bbl) which I won on ebay arrived at my house.
Shipped in from out of state.

My first look at the car while it was still on the trailer impressed me. A very straight body and the paint looked better than the seller said (he said the paint is faded; if it is, it's not faded much).

The only glitch was that when the driver attempted to pull it off the trailer, it wouldn't start! He tried hooking up jumper cables and I suggested tapping the starter and it still wouldn't start. The headlights and power windows were working. I figured instead of just leaving it in front of my house, I would have it put on a flatbed truck and brought to a local shop I use. Last I heard (yesterday) I was told that starter solenoid is the problem. I think it may also be the ignition switch because when it was in the "on" position, the fuel gauge did not go up (fuel gauge does work). I also noticed that the brake pedel felt kind of mushy so I would have taken it to the shop anyway. Want to make sure the brakes are safe!

Anyway, I did have a chance to look the car over and take some photos (see below). I think the owner did not praise the interior enough. The seats are thick, plush and very soft. In fact, the seats are thicker and softer than the seats in my former '71 Cadillac Fleetwood. Here are some pics; I will post an update later this week.

Cool! Glad it is more than you were anticipating. Looks like a solid car. I remember that same style of steering wheel in my old 68 Imperial, tilt-telescoping.

It does look solid. I didn't realize the steering wheel is the same style as on the '68 Imperial. I am thinking it most likely was a garaged car. And it will be with me.
I already have a '69 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham in my garage and I was going to put my '76 Cadillac Limousine in there, too. But the interior of this '66 VIP is just too good to park the car in the garage, so my limo will stay in the driveway and this Mopar will have the honor of a space in the garage.

BTW, I really like the big speedometers on the '65-'66 Fury. As I told someone else, if a driver can't see a speedo this big, he shouldn't be driving!

It looks like a pretty nice car.  I have had one in the past also.

It looks like a pretty nice car.  I have had one in the past also.
I find it surprising how many people have owned one of these Mopars.

I think I will really enjoy this car. I like my Cadillacs, but something is missing when you don't own at least one Mopar!

I drove the '66 VIP for the first time yesterday.

It feels fine; easy to drive. The 383-4 bbl engine feel strong, even in this heavy car. The brake pedal is very hard to push, I'll have to look into that.

I was driving on a street which starts going to a gradual uphill and I gave it about 50% throttle and the car took off!

On another street, I stopped and started turning right going up a steeper hill. After it was rolling at about 8 mph, I gave it immediate 40-50% throttle and the rear wheel started to spin! The owner was correct when he said that the car will spin the tires sometimes when you don't expect it to.

I made a quick youtube video. Starting the engine, idling and a few revs. Sounds good to me!
