Need 72-74 Cuda grille molding installation help
« on: July 04, 2009 - 02:45:57 PM »
What is the proper procedure for installing the inner chrome grille molding on each side of the 72-74 barracuda grille. Do I place the molding in, then slide the little snug fitting clips over the pins, or do I put the clips in the holes and press the molding into them? Not much success yet. Is there some trick to this or special tool because it is has proved to be a pain so far. Would like to hear from someone who has installed these.

I think you are supposed to put the clips in the holes and then offer up the trim.

I only had a couple of the clips so here's what I did:

1)  Find some rubber tube (like screen washer tube) which is a good tight fit on the studs

2)  Cut it into lengths about half inch long

3)  put some sealer (silicone or similar mastic type stuff) on the studs and into the tube

4)  fit the trim and push on the tube sections from behind

This is obviously a bodge and may offend the purists but it does hold it pretty well and it is easy to get off again if you need to.

Thanks. Two minutes later I figured it out and did it the right way. I placed the clips on the wrong side. I should think things out a little longer before posting. Its been a year and a half since someone backed into the front of my car and now that I am close to finishing it, I am getting anxious and am probably rushing a bit.
