Alternate ways to install hood emblems
« on: June 30, 2009 - 03:24:15 PM »
For those of us that dont want to drill holes in the hood, what are alternate ways that anyone has tried to attach hood emblems?  I want to put on "Cuda 440" hood emblems but dont want to drill holes.

Use some good industrial type two sided tape. Trim the tape around the emblem neatly and you will not see the tape.

I believe there are adhesive tapes and/or adhesives available for emblems. Check your local auto body/paint supply store.

Yeah I knew 2 sided tape would probably be the best alternative but since the back of the emblems are hollow/not flat, Im thinking when the tape is pressed on it will form down in the depressions of the back of the emblem not leaving much surface area of tape left for adhesion to the hood.  Can someone who has actually done this give me some feedback on how well using 2 sided tape works?

You might want to try clear silicone sealer.
I've used it on  old Challenger emblems. It will fill the hollow gaps and
it is not permanent. The only trick is drying time is slow and you have
to use it very sparingly. No sealer on the very outside of the emblem.
You can,t clean it off while the emblem is on the car. So if you press it on
too much it will scweeze out the outside. Practice on some sheet metal.
It will eventually clean off with rubbing acohol or paint thinner.
Good luck

Or , use the best of both worlds. Fill the gaps on the back of the emblem with silicon and let it dry face up on some wax paper. Should produce a nice flat surface for the two-sided tape. Hopefully it won't stick to the wax paper  :dunno:

I`d fill it with poly-urethane or something instead of silicon, and then tape it on.    :2cents:
