Shaker hood repro
« on: March 04, 2009 - 04:50:08 PM »
Hello everybody.
I want to replace my hood with a shaker hood repro ('cuda 1970).
Any idea about the quality of the items on ebay?
What is the best solution?

Thank you

R.

I would suggest you buy an AMD unit or Goodmark unit as they are the easiest way to have a hood that is ready for paint.  Just check with the seller on e-bay to see what brand hood is that they are selling :2thumbs: my :2cents:

To tell you the truth the quality is that good that you could post any picture of a nice looking Shaker hood and the AMD stuff would be identical :2thumbs:

Hey Mike, do you know if these come with the gasket already fitted for the Shaker ring buddy ?

No I didn't ask them that when we saw them there. But I can tell you this:

I turned my flat hood into a shaker as you may recall. I bought the gasket and it didn't even match up at all to the stud pattern. I had to make new holes to line them up. To make matters worse, I had to cut about 1 inch of the gasket shortening it so it would fit flush in the groove where it's supposed to go.

Save your $60 bucks and use silicone I say.

About 12-20 hours is what you can expect to be putting into converting it into a shaker hood. My flat hood was amazingly straight and I paid 400 for it before the repro hoods were even rumoured to be made. So that's why I decided to do it. Body shop will finish it with filler and sanding.

I still hear that the guage metal on the repros isn't as thick as the originals. I don't have any actual facts to base it on only from what others have said.

I guess it really comes down to how particular you are on having your car with OEM steel vs. repro. I myself would do it again. But the ring has a lot to desire. It will need some re contouring (beveling) in areas since it doesn't fit perfect flush into the indentated area it sits into. The casting isn't accurate. Harms kit might've solved this but I haven't seen one in person.

I have a question about repairing my repro shaker ring, which is about 7 years old by a company name snobar?
Anyway, it appeared to be fitting loose, and when I removed it you can see where several of the studs, #10x32 I think had fallen out of the aluminum rim.
Any suggestions as to repairing it? Aluminum weld? Dont want to have to repaint it if possible.
Thanks.

AMD is the only way to go.  I agree with mopardave on this.

This is my opinion.

I also ship overseas as well.
