Proper Window Crank Position?

Was there a certain position the factory placed the window crank in either the open or closed position for ergonomic or asthetical reasons?  All forward, all back???

With the windows up, the knobs are forward.

I have found that forward with a some up angle, about 2: oclock, fit me best. If lower the crank knob hit my knee, of course everyone is made different.

You know - I never even thought about trying put them all in the same position. Mine have been on and off so many times that I just threw them on. Ill have to fix that  :cheers:

I am not sure if there was a standard at the factory for window crank placement. This is what I was told when I worked at a Dodge dealer in the '80's. If you turn the crank clockwise to raise the window ( I think they all go clockwise to raise the windows.) you would install the handle so the knob is at approx the 4 o clock position. (If I am wrong and you turn the crank counterclockwise to raise the window, you would position the knob at the 8 oclock position.) The reasoning is if the car goes over a bump the weight of the handle/knob would push down keeping the window closed. If it was installed in another position the weight of the knob could crack the window open if the crank moved from vibration or a bump. This could cause a window to be open slightly, not be noticed and water could get in to the car if it rained.
This is the way I have always done it.

The factory engineering drawings (that I can no longer share) show them installed knob forward.  ;)
