Parking brtake cables and exhaust question
« on: July 17, 2009 - 09:08:46 AM »
I am having my exhaust re-done tomrrow and realized I have a question on where the crossover cables for the parking brakes are supposed to run...above (near the floorbaords) or below (nearer to the street) the exhaust system?

Right now, they are below the exhaust system....

??? :clueless:

Thanks all!

so the cables will rest on the top of the exhaust?

They are currently below, and the exhaust is pushing DOWN on them.....didnt look right to me.

Seems like every picture I see has the cables below the exhaust, and it doesnt look right. Seems they would wear on eachother.

Thanks guys.   Where are yours tommy?   I guess I can ask them at the shop if the cables will work above......now that I am thinking about it, with this system there may not be enough clearance 9when installed properly) to put them above.

They're right next to the floor on my cars. (Above the exhaust)

Mine crosses over just under the h-pipe, and it still touches the floorpans toward the back. I dont see how it could be routed above the exhaust, unless I'm missing something.

I will take another look at the 70 and 73 as I was just going from memory. My 71 Charger is above for sure, but it's a B-body, so..........

Well, the guy at the shop said "above".

Actually, they seem to be "ok" there with this exhaust, as it tucks way up in there.  Will have to see once I get to try the e brake.

Havent actually TRIED the e brake yet because I still need the spring at the foot pedal  (anyone know where I can get one of those!??!)

I just looked under both cars....

The 73 with single exhaust is above, just like I remembered. Should make no difference with duals.

The 70 with duals has a 70 only system which doesn't really come near the exhaust at all. (Main cable comes down the left side of the car to the splitter near the rear end.)
