Hi
I hope some one can tell my how to see if my 8 3/4 has positraction. It is with a 1 3/8 pinion.
When the car is on jacks and I turn one wheel the other turn the same way! That lock is that what is called positraction or sure grip?

thanks Sven

I was told that if the wheels turn the same way it is a sure-grip.

741 housing if it isnt tampered with will have a clutch type sure grip. And that is as good as you get for durability , it is rebuildable to

Sure enough, it's a sure-grip!

Where's your pinion snubber? (Rubber bumper type thing that bolts to the top of the housing)

If it hasn't ever been apart then its a Sure Grip. But if it has been apart it could also be a spool (if it was a racer). Of course if it was a racer it probably wouldn't still have a 741 case, so you've probably got a sure grip.

I have a 83/4 rear end.  It roars some and only one wheel spins.  Could the clutches be worn out preventing the other wheel from turning.  Also if I jack it up should both wheels turn if the clutches are worn out.
