340 T/A - Rocker Configuration Check
« on: September 10, 2009 - 08:44:07 PM »
Looking for someone to confirm that the rocker arm configuration in the attached picture is correct.  Motor is '70 340 T/A.  The spacers that go under the rocker bolts seem to work best when they alternate small-large-small etc...  I don't  remember how they came off, but with the large spacers on the ends, the push rods come too close to the holes in the head.

Also, do the push rod angles look like they are supposed to?

Yep, that is correct.  :2thumbs:  Are the pushrods stock or aftermarket?

For rocker adjustment I went to zero gap plus 1.5 turns.  Is that correct?

Can you take a photo of one head looking straight down? It is easier to spot the correct rocker configuration that way.

1.5 turns was recommended back in the day, but with newer cams it tends to wipe the cam lobes. Chrycho can tell you for sure, but I think most folks start with 1/4 to 1/2 turn now to avoid that.

1/2 to 3/4 turn is a better adjustment. You are just trying to set the pushrod about 1/2 way into the lifter plunger travel.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

1/8 turn is what I use. Just enough to keep it from ticking when it's hot. It might tick just a little when it's cold but it'll stop when it's warmed up. My 318 used to do 7,200rpm with this setting with a .little 470 lift factory cam using the same T/A rocker gear.
