Plug I typically have the most problems with is the NGK Jap plugs , run them rich & they are the first plug to stop firing & cleaning will not bring them back to life

Aussie - That's the side gapping I mentionned before. Incidently, I use NGK race V grooves on the important engines. Everything else gets Autolites...lol.

I have seen the earth strap ground back and re bent to have a gap onto the side of the centre electrode, that is what took your comment to mean for side gapping.

The only times I have seen NGK's fouling is when the wrong heat range used.

MSD tech told me even their MSD 8 box will live on the street with the right coil. Believe that spark box will bring any "dead" plug back to life, lol.

Racers don't drop a $1,000 on a spark box and coil for no good reason. Sure a motor will run with a stock spark box but all the fuel will not burn. Motor may not miss but the ET will show at the strip.

I find it funny how some will spend $5 to $10 a spark plug but then fire the plug on a stock spark box. MSD 6 boxes are not much better than stock thou...if any. Its only once you move up to the 7 and higher boxes that really show the difference.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Well DUH.... Dont run them rich

I find them much easier to read small changes on than the Autolites. The Autolites will last a while with high poered ignitions compared to Champions tho. The MSDs I've had and the Jacobs before that would burn the corners off the center electrode using Champions in about 1500 miles.

I tried indexing in one of my drag cars that was pretty consistent. Didn't notice any appreciable difference. Same thing with some Splitfire plugs. Yes, there was a little increase, but I could duplicate that same increase with new plugs of the regular copper core variety. IMO, the only advantage to multiple electrodes is that it give more sharp edges for the spark to jump to for longer periods of times compared to the single ground strap type. So if you don't change your plugs very often, you may not see as big a DECREASE over time as you would with a standard plug, but I don't believe you'll find an INCREASE. Unless your putting the politician's spin on it that not having a loss is actually the same as having an increase.

I got it. I was just watching about indexing the plugs and it made me remember about a thread that was on here a while ago. Then I got to thinking about the 4 prong spark plugs so that's why I made this thread. It does seem like a lot of work if it's not gonna make that much difference.
