I see from a picture you posted of your engine compartment, you have an MSD 6al box. Does your stock tach work? Did you have to use any adapters to make it work?

I have not attempted to hook up the stock tach to the MSD box. I read that it will not work. My evil plan is, once the engine is running, invest in replacing the guts of the tach with an electronic one from rt-eng that will work with the MSD box.

The other option is using an adapter, but I think replacing the tach guts is only slightly more expensive, and is a much better solution.

To get your factory tach. to work with the MSD ignition you need one of these...http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8920/

It's $59 for the tach adapter, and $75 to fix the tach itself. That's why I chose to go with the latter, as the result is the factory look but with modern performance.

Thanks for the info guys. I was wondering if I needed an adapter or not, but I really like the idea of replacing the tach's guts. I'll order up the kit in a day or two. I hope it's as easy to swap out as they say. Once I get it working, I'll get the msd box.

I also plan to keep the old tach guts, in case when I sell the car (or my relatives after I'm gone!) someone can do a resto if they wish. I've got a number of boxes of old junk like that I've replaced.

Would that mean you tried the clock conversion from RTE?

Not yet. I promised myself I'd get the car running before revamping the dash & instruments.
