Who makes the best Cuda Door Panels?
« on: July 30, 2009 - 01:01:09 PM »
Im fixing to replace my door panels in my 70 Cuda.  I've heard and read about the aftermarket panels not being the same type plastic in terms of hardness, grain pattern, etc. and also not necessarily fitting too well.  For those who have first hand knowledge of this subject matter, who would you recommend I buy these panels from?

The best option is finding originals. Some people are happy with the repop panels, but I will never run them. A repop panel can be spotted from 20 feet away. There is a vendor on here that sells them, but he doesn't recommend them either. The biggest issue is the grain being different, which is caused by the panels manufacturing process.

:iagree: but I would still search to the ends of the earth for an original set before I would ever put a set of repros in my car.

Do a search on this site and you'll find plenty of info.  Here's one prior thread and my prior reply which holds oh so true.http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=58763.msg605589#msg605589

I totally wasted my money buying Palco's for my Challenger. They are in a land fill now.  :grinyes:  I can only hope they have done a better job on the Cuda panels.

They probably get them from Palco, but not 100% on that.

Aren't Palco and Accuform the only ones out there?  If so, knowing Year One, it's whoever makes the crappier ones.

Some time ago I ordered all the panels for my Challenger from Year One.  Six months later, I only received the A piller pieces, and I'm glad of it. The fit was so bad they were completely unusable even if I didn't care about originality.  I cancelled the rest of the order.  They were Accuform.  I ebayed some rear quarters as a test (Palco).  They fit quite well, but have some issues.  The texture is way off and the parts thinned out quite a bit where the tips go to the window area (both broke off).  While the texture on the Accuforms is too round and tall, some light sanding makes them almost perfect.  Looking carefully at original panels, it looks like this is how they did it originally (even to what looks like sanding marks in the molding).  The Palcos have what seems to be a much flatter vinylish pattern.  My fit experience is only on the above listed parts and may be better or worse for other parts.  The last problem I have is if you need a color other than black or white.  No matter how careful I am, that blue paint is going to wear/scratch through and show white.  If they could mold it in at least a complimentary color so wear would not show so obviously, it would be a tremendous help. They make styrene in all sorts of colors. :-\  I'm thinking I may experiment with fiberglass with colored gel coat.

...maybe next year. :-[
