Door latch/lock is 1970 the same as 71-74

My latch /lock mechanism is messed up . Will the other years 71-74 fit my 1970 Challenger? Do the rod's just clip in the same etc..?

The door latches are different.  1970 is a style of its own, however a 71-74 latch will fit and work properly.  I don't think you can see the differences once it is installed either.

The latch differs in how it locks.  One style allows you to lock the door from the inside and then shut the door.  The others style makes you lock the door from the outside.  I can't remember now which is which.

Now this is the latch thats is screwed inside the door right?   If so, I do have some if you have to have one soon. I was going to ship wagesofsin some parts tomorrow and if you pm me your address, I will send this to you. I think the screws are there, they should be on the door with the latch still installed.

I did know about that & actually helped brad convert his 70 latch to work like the 71 up about 2 weeks ago

So for future reference...which way is it? 

Does the door unlock on a 70 if you shut the door when it is in the locked position?

yes , you cannot lock the 70 doors until they are closed

Thanks CP I just sent Alan my address!  My lock cylinders must be messed up as you said  when you phoned. They only unlock ( turn the one way) So If I get the 71 and up version. I don't have to worry about replacing them either? I don't mind just being able to unlock the door with the key if I can lock the door then close it.
