A good third chunk (8 3/4 rear end) with a posi unit will generally fetch about $500 bucks.....some of the variables that will bring in a little more or a little less are: if it's a cone or clutch type posi, gear ratio, 742 case or 489 case ect.  to name a few.

I bought a 489 case 3.23 Sure-Grip center section for $300 back in 00.  I can't imagine they are going down in price.  Especially since no one is making new 3.23 gears.

Last week I sold a 489 3.23 Suregrip unit for $450 (Cdn).  It was a nice unit.  I think $500 is tops.  About 5 years ago I bought a 742 3.91 unit for $450.  It all seems pretty reasonable after your price new gears, bearings and a Suregrip type unit!  Two years ago I wreck my 8 3/4 and had to buy axles and get the whole centre section redone and get a new driveshaft.  It was almost $2K with new gears and assembly labor.  I installed the center section.

$350 is about right on Epay for a used one that might need some work.  I sold one like that 6 months ago for $360.

(Then FedEx promptly lost it)
